Lakeside Vista & "The Half Day Wine Tour"

In August 2013 when Pat and Nancy were floating on their boat in front of the recently closed restaurant that would become Lakeside Vista they noticed that a For Sale sign and phone number were now posted.

Having been on Otisco Lake since 1984 they knew the restaurant in all of its various iterations and failures.

They also knew the history of the building dating back to the late 1800's as the hotel known as Forest Home.

They talked and dreamed for over an hour about what could be done with this site that could restore a dynamic social life to the Otisco and Skaneateles valleys and draw enough patrons from the surrounding communities including Syracuse, Auburn and Cortland to sustain the financial stability of such a seasonal enterprise. The unique concept of "The Half Day Wine Tour" evolved quite spontaneously.

They both enjoyed wine and were avid participants in the Cayuga-Seneca wine trails for years. Both were committed to and in love with the communities and topography of the Finger Lakes. As Pat is a graduate of Cornell they both grew up on these lakes with boating and fishing and wine. The downside of the wine tours from Central New York was the 90 minute drive to the first winery. Then from 12 to 5 trying to cover 5 wineries, sample 4 to 6 small tastes of the wines being promoted in the tasting, reloading into a vehicle and proceeding to next available winery.

As the afternoon progressed the tailgating would too. However, at some point the group became interested in supper and typically would find themselves in an area remote from a good restaurant. Then the ride home that always seemed twice as long as the ride that morning via limo, bus or car.
            Thus the -------------------------CONCEPT
They asked, "Why not bring the Finger Lakes wines closer to CNY and offer a spectacular view, tremendous food and a sampling of 20 wineries all in one facility?"  "The drive is 20 to 30 minutes each way, ensure a wonderful 15 mile view from almost every table inside or out, provide music in the evenings, 250 feet of restored waterfront and romantic corners?"
No brainer ?     Ingenious ?
ABSOLUTELY!

Pat and Nancy called the owner from their boat and the rest is the history of Lakeside Vista.
